How Easy ir is to Spend Taxpayers' Money

 

How easy it is to spend taxpayers' money! Suspend a 'worker' for 2 to 10 years on full pay, and then give them a golden handshake. Of course, governments, and particularly Ministers and Presidents, know that the supply of funds from taxpayers is inexhaustible. Until it stops! And even then, they continue to dream, funding their insanities with borrowed money - essentially spending the tax in advance - until reality hits, and then they blame everyone, establish commissions to find excuses for what went wrong, and explain to the voters that they have to wait for the reports, three to five years down the road, before they can fix the problem they created, in the full knowledge that they will create new problems to distract the voters when that time comes. And still they continue to dream!
Ramaphosa bewails the fact that South Africa has not overcome racism, 26 years after the ANC instituted its program of neo-racism, and demands that the Whites accept that BEE, Expropriation without Compensation and downgrading of government's capabilities by cadre deployment, be seen as both necessary and good. The real reasons for the woeful economic performance of the economy under Ramaphosa are BEE, which ensures that any White with skills and ambition goes elsewhere, to a country which values contribution without regard to skin color, Expropriation without Compensation, which ensures that no investor will put his or her money into a gamble, hoping that the government will not see the temptation to enrich its members or buy votes with it, and cadre deployment, which ensures that the civil service is both bloated and overpaid, without delivering any value to the people they 'serve'. Add to that, the fact that the President is a dedicated racist (remember that he propounded the theory at the time of negotiating the Constitution that the best way to get rid of the Whites is to subject them to increasing pressure, to heat the water until the frog jumps out?), as well as an incompetent manager, who learned the words but did not understand the theories and practice behind them, while he 'served' as Director of large corporations, who bought him as a reliable link to the ANC to get things done when and how they needed (remember Marikana?) It is glaringly obvious that Ramaphosa is neither an effective leader, never making decisions until he sees which way the NEC will jump, nor an effective manager, allowing his Ministers to run around like headless chickens while he boasts of 'performance agreements', which have no quantified targets, no rationale (remember the insane regulations about buying open-toe shoes, tee-shirts, discouraging the development of e-commerce, which has been an economy-saver in other countries but in South Africa is considered to be unfair to other retailers, and banning the sale of cigarettes because the 'infection is spread by sharing cigarettes', totally ignoring the other pandemics of AIDS - strongly promoted by the ANC under Mbeki, TB and half a dozen others).

Ramaphosa, and whoever replaces him when NDZ and Ace win the fight, should understand that the conflict in South Africa is the direct result of joblessness - easily over 50% and getting worse - and low investment. Poor people look for scapegoats, and the ANC is very good at pointing the finger at the Whites, who founded, funded and operate the vast majority of businesses that provide the few economically-active, i.e. non-government, jobs (because that is what you do when you gain experience by working your way up in the organization, and what you can’t fo when you have ‘earned’ your fortune by holding an overpaid job (gained by the color of your skin and having political connections, while hiring consultants to do the work you are paid for, while not gaining the experience and skills that come from working your way up the organization).

The ANC has ensured that this pool of skills leaves for better pastures, citing ideological reasons. Unfortunately, people cannot eat ideology, as the Communist bloc found to its horror. People need jobs, prospects for improvement that they can achieve by effort and training, and hope for the future. Ramaphosa cannot offer these.

 

Joe Slovo and Economic Predictions

 The extract below from the eBook ‘Marloth’ is a frightening statement of the situation that exists right now in South Africa.

“Shortly after 1994, when the new democracy was instituted, Joe Slovo, the leader of the South African Communist Party, was asked in a television debate with the Chief Editor of a major newspaper why, when almost every other Communist government around the world had collapsed, he thought that Communism would succeed in South Africa. His response was that Communism needed a stock of capital to succeed. South Africa had that. The Editor asked what would happen when that capital stock was exhausted. Slovo replied that they would then move to another system! I know several highly competent economists who believe that the country is heading rapidly towards that point. The South African Government bonds have been downgraded by the ratings agencies, as have the major banks. The exchange rate is heading south, major companies that were proudly South African are relocating their head offices to other countries, and many of the companies that had major investments in the country are pulling out. The best of our university graduates can hardly wait until they graduate to start looking for jobs in more civilized countries. The signs are clear if you care to look for them.”

The book was written and published in 2014, and the prediction made then has become a stark reality in the lives of the average South African. Even without the ravages of Covid-19 and the poor handling of the epidemic by the government, it was clear to any thinking person that the roadmap the government was following was destined to lead to an economic and fiscal cliff. The pandemic has served to speed up the bus in which we are all passengers, all of us relying on the driver to correct his course before we reach that cliff. Several of the smarter passengers saw the facts early, and jumped off the bus, accepting the injuries they would suffer as a small price to avoid the collapse that they saw to be inevitable. The rest sit in the bus, holding on, white-knuckled, as the bus veers erratically but inevitably towards the economic collapse now looking to be not far ahead.

If the citizens of the country are really earnest about saving their country, now is the time for them to act. Now is the time to take Joe Slovo’s advice and find another system of economic management. Now is the time to force the voters to understand that no others will come to our aid, not Russia, not China, not the AU.

South Africans are, in general, good-hearted and hardworking people, willing to do what is needed, if someone shows them the goal and the way to get there. Most of them would rather work at a job to earn their living, rather than relying on ‘gifts from the ANC’, gifts which can only come if there is an economy capable of earning the profits that will be taxed. Most of them are capable of understanding what the economic facts of life are, what needs to be done to dig themselves out of the hole that the Marxist promises of ‘their’ Party have trapped them in. It will be a slow and painful process, much slower and more painful than it could have been if it had started in 2014 or even earlier, but it will have a result that every honest citizen will be able to point to with pride. It will set the country on the road to taking its place amongst the leading countries of the world.

The ANC SANDF Flight to Zimbabwe

 It has now been firmly established that several senior ANC members flew to Zimbabwe ‘on a mission to assist Zimbabwe’. The flight was unauthorised under the lockdown regulations and under the laws governing the use of Military assets. It also raises concerns on how the South African foreign policy, the exclusive prerogative of Government, is being conducted by Party members who are not elected and are not even Members of Parliament, as well as the extent to which the ANC considers itself to be bound by the laws and regulations that have brought near-collapse to the country.

The simple fact is that the flight meets the definition of fraud – the unauthorised use of the asset of another to gain a benefit for the Party. As such, the persons involved should be charged with the criminal offence it was. Fraud is, apparently, a standard practice in the ANC. Several senior figures have been found guilty of fraud, and many more would be, if they were not protected by the Party and sheltered by senior officials in government. The situation is so bad that the Judge President of the Cape Supreme Court has been fighting a rearguard action against several serious charges by his fellow Judges for twelve years (!), and is now facing a charge of planning the assassination of another Judge! The situation is so bad that it would be highly unusual for the President of the country, the man who swore an Oath of Office which requires him to protect the citizens of the country, not the members of his Party, and to uphold the laws of South Africa, to enforce the laws, as he would against, for instance, an estate agent who made an innocent remark about the dozens of ‘young monkeys’ on the beach, using words that are ubiquitous in the English-speaking world, to describe young children seen as amusing and cute. In that case, the ‘law’ required only days to haul her before a Tribunal, which levied an extraordinarily heavy fine, and then before Court, for the same ‘offence’, which levied a further heavy penalty. That abuse of Human Rights stands in stark contrast to the absolute lack of action against well-documented corruption by the ANC and its members over many years of its abuse of the State positions held by its members, as well as fraudulent action by others, such as the leadership of Steinhof, both of which have cost the country and its citizens dearly, and in all of which cases the culprits continue to run free amongst the citizens they have defrauded.

Unfortunately, there is little to zero likelihood of the culprits being charged or subjected to appropriate penalties under law.

Ask yourself, if a White citizen were to board an Air Force flight so that he could negotiate with someone in another country, would the same leniency be applied to him? (You can stop laughing at that thought!) Now ask yourself, Why?

Added to the crime is the much bigger concern that the elected members of the Legislature and/or the Executive, worthless though they may be, are not dong the job they are paid to do, but handing it over to members of the Party, people who are not elected and have no accountability to the government or the people. The ANC has ignored the plight of the people of Zimbabwe for decades, sitting on their hands while the dictatorial and brutal government of that country has committed crimes coming close to genocide, bringing the country to a state of continuing collapse, while they bask in their stolen wealth. The Mbeki policy of ‘do nothing to upset a fellow ‘Freedom Fighter’ turned dictator and abuser of his nation’ masquerading under the cloak of ‘quiet diplomacy’ instigated by Thabo Mbeki and perpetuated by Jacob Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa), was clearly aimed at not creating an atmosphere in the African Union which would hold such criminals to account for their action. That was absolute proof that the African Union exists to protect the chummy club of top politicians, and not the people of its member nations. That proof was reinforced by the fact that Omar al Bashir, a man wanted by the International Criminal Court on a charge of genocide, was allowed by Jacob Zuma and his ANC to go free, against the order of a competent South African Court (at a time when Ramaphosa was Deputy President). Do we need further proof that the running of the country, a task entrusted by the Constitution to the Executive under the stewardship of Parliament, has been outsourced? The only question is whether that was the subject of a sale by the President to his Party, the price being the Presidency, or if the President is a partner in the venture to take as much from the Presidency as can be arranged, before the citizens catch up with them.

As an increasing number of people (including people of all races who have seen that there is no prospect of unseating the criminal cabal running the country while there is still some small amount of the economy to be saved) are talking of violent action even amounting to civil war. One can only hope that the President and his men understand that a break from the gang of criminals is preferable to dangling at the end of a rope over a lightple.

Ramaphosa's Solution to Corruption

 

If Ramaphosa had a real desire to wipe out corruption, he would have introduced a body at government level to do the work. The Integrity Commission of the ANC, like all the other Commissions used by the ANC over the years, has no teeth, and no intention to produce anything more than a bland recommendation that ‘all is fine. No worries.’ If you doubt that, look at the record of the Seriti Commission, which set the benchmark for Commissions and Committees. What South Africa really needs is a body that a priori assess the honesty, integrity and suitability for the position to be held by the candidate before he or she is given the awesome power held by MPs, Ministers, the President, Directors General of Departments and their deputies, and other such positions. The Financial Services industry is required by law to assess these qualities in their candidates for high office. Why should a person who holds an office managing billions of Rands of public money be of a lower standard? If Parliament sees this form of check as essential for the Director of an investment brokerage, why are they not pressing for the same rules to apply? Why is Ramaphosa holding back on this, instead presenting as his ‘solution’ to the corruption pandemic that has swept the land since 1994 the ‘requiring’ of a toothless lapdog with no responsibility to the citizens or to Parliament to undertake the ‘vetting’ (without publication of the results) of the huge number of Party members who routinely indulge in ripping off the public purse?

It is no secret that the ANC itself, as well as its cadres, have been deeply involved in corrupt activities since the earliest days. Corruption is its very lifeblood, funding election campaigns and Party activities of every sort. To walk away from that sort of cash, and revert to a system in which the rights and needs of the citizens are the first priority of the government, as Mandela professed to believe, would require a fundamental reassessment of priorities and a realignment of the Party. Ramaphosa, a man noted for inaction, except at the urgent behest of co-directors such as those requesting him to seek stronger Police action at Marikana, is not the leader’ we need to correct the disastrous course the Ship of State is on. His passive acceptance of the dictates of Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and Beki Cele during the Covid-19 fiasco that has brought us so much closer to the rocks of disaster, while also putting huge sums in the pockets of the criminals amongst us, is a clear indication that he is ‘holding down a position’ while allowing (unelected) others to dictate policies, without even the rubber-stamping previously obtained from Parliament. Until we see at least five Cabinet Ministers in orange overalls, no intelligent investor will even put South Africa on his list of places to develop industry. That won’t happen, so expect more of the same.

The Republican Party is a disgrace. The ANC is a disgrace

 People who believe in democracy as a principle have viewed the United States as an example of how a diverse country can benefit from the institution of democracy. The country stood out as a beacon of freedom and the application of real democratic principles in a world of fraudulent democracies, such as the ‘Democratic’ East Germany, the ‘Democratic’ North Korea, the ‘Democratic’ Republic of the Congo. For a while, a very brief while, unfortunately, South Africa took a place alongside the United States in the august body of countries in which the government apparently considered itself to be representative of the people, and responsible to the people. In the case of South Africa, that experiment failed when the governing Party found that democracy did not put money in the pockets of its members, and, at the same time, its Marxist policies were beginning to show their incapability of operating in the real world. In retrospect, it seems that the principle of democracy was starting to fail in the United States, helped along by a growing coterie of ‘strong men’ who believed that their thoughts were better, more effective, than those of the common man, and their pockets more deserving, and they started to corrupt the two Parties at the heart pf the American political system. Those people included politicians, big-businessmen and Church leaders, all of whom saw the potential for themselves in misleading the voters, in order to gain huge wealth for themselves. Initially, their moves were made surreptitiously, as part of a long plan to subvert the principles they professed to support, but the drive for massive wealth was too great to resist for long, and the program was accelerated. Side players were brought in as the opportunities developed, players such as Facebook, Cambridge Analytica and their ilk, and then the more reckless players came to accept the moral negatives of conspiring with foreign governments, particularly dictators like Vladimir Putin, to subvert the democracy that is so important to their people. Many of these politicians did this as an act of desperation, in the knowledge that their own abilities would not carry the day in the face of more honest, more moral or simply more competent opponents. In many cases, this move to what, in a more normal society would be viewed with a feeling akin to horror at what seemed to be close to treason, was only a small step for men who lived their business and political existences in an environment of deceit, fraud and convenient lies, and the Church leaders who followed and supported them saw it as only a small deviation from their existence in a world of hidden depravity, sexual excess and pornography. In short, the ‘leaders’ of the community were willing to lead their unthinking and brainwashed followers down a road that has, at its end, the extinction of democracy.

 Recent events testify to the acceleration of this trend. The Senate Hearing in the appointment of Brett Cavanaugh to the Supreme Court was a denial of justice. The Senate had no desire to hear the facts, but, instead, they attacked the witness who was the subject of an attempted rape by the candidate, an act repeated and encouraged by the President. Yet many of the America women remain steadfast in their support of Donald Trump, a demonstrated womaniser and user of prostitutes. The Senate Republicans, during the Impeachment Hearing, had no desire to hear the facts on which Donald Trump stood accused pf grievous misconduct, with only one of them voting against the Republican majority, which acquitted him against the overwhelming evidence. In both of these cases, the Republican Senators, the supposed Representatives of the People, flagrantly and arrogantly supported a man whose entire life has been a lie, a man who demonstrated his cowardice by dodging the draft on the basis of ‘spurs’ in one foot, although he is unable to remember which foot, a man who as President has been shown to have told more than 20 000 outright lies. They have chosen to support a man who has exercised his right to pardon criminals in ways never contemplated by those who wrote that right into law, who has estranged the United States from virtually every democratic ally and so brought world peace into a state of extreme jeopardy, who has shown his incapability to lead by sanctioning actions which have resulted in 170 000 American deaths.

The comparison with South Africa is apt. Donald Trump treats African countries as unworthy of respect or attention, as having no ability to display his supposed ideal of American democracy. In some ways he is right. Virtually no African country lives real democracy. It seems that the system of tribal and traditional leadership is antithetical to democracy. He is also wrong. No true democrat, African or otherwise, would want his country to adopt the current American version of democracy. The American example has disappointed them. People like Trump have removed the American model of democratic governance, leading to a moral vacuum in the part of the world that used to believe in the United States as a shining example to which nations such as the South Africans could aspire. That vacuum has been partly filled by Angela Merkel, a quiet-spoken but remarkably effective leader, and Emmanuel Macron, a man still trying to find his footing after a period of sucking up to Donald Trump, but those examples have been largely neutralized by Boris Johnson, a Trump-acolyte leading his country into an economic abyss on a basis of false promises and outright lies. That leaves the world in the condition of acute vulnerability to leaders of Russia and China, both of whom are considerably more competent than the man leading America.

And that brings us back to South Africa, a country reborn in 1994, amid promises of a Rainbow Nation that would harness the best qualities of all its citizens to march confidently into a bright new future. Instead, President after President has misled the people into an ever-darkening failure of the State, based on Marxist-Leninist policies which have failed wherever they have been applied, which has adopted a New Apartheid, another discredited policy, in order to ensure that the ANC will have the ability to gain control of the economic might of its businesses, which saw the country grow strongly even during the dark days of the previous regime.

Perhaps the voters of the United States should have heeded the warnings given by Trump’s multiple business failures and bankruptcies in the years before his election as President. Perhaps the voters in South Africa should have heeded the warning given by Cyril Ramaphosa during the negotiations on the new Constitution, when he declared that his, and supposedly the ANC’s, aim was to heat the water slowly so that the frog in the water, representing the Whites who were keen to assist their Black brothers to make the country one to aspire to, would remain unsuspecting and unaware of the intention to dispossess them of their assets and their rights until the feat was complete. Perhaps the voters, White and Black, should have considered that the principle of democracy, or which they overwhelmingly voted in 1994, would be eroded by a crooked and incompetent government within less than thirty years, leaving most of them in poverty and desperation, while the chosen few amassed wealth that would have been unimaginable only a few short years before. Perhaps the voters in South Africa, as in the United States, should have understood that the election promises made to them were no more than political lies to permit the men and women making them access to the unlimited wealth of their countries.

One can only hope that, in the electoral process, the voters will come to their senses, that they will have the wit to understand what these anti-democratic processes have cost them and their countries, and will choose to vote for a government that will set the countries back on the road to a good future. One can only hope that citizens everywhere will heed the warnings given by the United States and South Africa, and take steps to ensure that their governments are led by people who believe in real democracy, not in the version that leads to wealth for the leaders and poverty for the citizens. One can only hope that the citizens of the world will understand that their liberty and their future can only be ensured by eternal vigilance over the doings of their leaders.

Tsunami:  A huge slab of rock hangs precariously on the side of a volcano in the Canary Islands, threatening to slip into the sea and precipitate a tsunami which will destroy the East Coast of the United States.  Jason Fairfield, a geologist who has been studying the rock for several years, travels to the island with Jenny to continue his investigations and notices a strange box in the trunk of a car on the ferry to the island.  That starts them thinking, and the process is helped by further events.

Population:  Jeff Tobin, a mathematician, becomes obsessed with the predictions of Thomas Malthus.  He develops a means to intervene in what he sees as the unchecked growth in the population of poor people, people who have no means of dragging themselves out of the poverty trap.  Max Walton, a successful serial entrepreneur, is working with Ann Markgraaff to develop an affordable and palatable food for the poverty-stricken of the world, but they are waylaid by Joseph Mbonani, a ruthless man who exploits his position of power and influence with banks and Government to demand a majority shareholding in their company, threatening various actions by the Revenue authorities and the Police if they fail to comply, as well as a refusal by the banks to provide funding.  Reluctant to accede to this demand, they turn to Integra Corporation to assist them to realize their business plan.  Believing that they have a moral obligation to act on their knowledge, they turn their attention to the companies where Mbonani’s blackmail has succeeded, and find that he and Tobin are involved in genocide on a continental scale.  They set about a daring plan to bring about the collapse of Mbonani’s empire.

Meteor Impact:  Jeff Ambrose, an amateur astronomer, is scanning the night sky when he spots an anomaly.  He applies all his knowledge to find a reason for it, and discovers a large clump of very large asteroids.  Concerned, he reports his findings to the authorities, only to find resistance to the notion that such a discovery by an amateur could be of value.  He enlists the aid of a young astronomer, and they complete the calculations, to find that the Earth is destined to collide with multiple large objects, each bigger than the object that terminated the rule of the dinosaurs sixty-five million years ago. 

In the face of active opposition by powerful interest groups, they manage to escape to Europe, where they enlist the aid of Integra, a privately-owned corporation with the ability to gain the attention of the major world Governments.  Together they race against time to put together an organization with the capability to ward off the danger, and to develop a plan to counter the greatest threat that Humanity has ever faced.

Storm:  Outback Tours is a business operated by Dan Brown to give foreign tourists an insight into the splendor of the Australian Outback.  On this tour, the second of its type, Dan leads a group of five women, promising to show them that they are capable of meeting almost any challenge.  The tour is cut short when a hurricane strikes, trapping them in an idyllic valley where a lightning strike sets of the collapse of a cliff face, damming the river.  When the storm abates, they evaluate their situation, and decide that there is little chance of them escaping from the valley in their LandRover unless the water subsides.  The situation becomes critical when one of the women is bitten by a venomous spider, and it becomes necessary for some of them to walk across the vast devastated Outback for help.  The walk is a lot harder and more dangerous than they expected, and they are driven to their limits in their quest to find help for Andrea!

Justis:  John Brown, the owner of a small spectacle wholesale business, is facing a large claim for damages by an exclusive distributor of his goods who has set a trap for him.  He is confident that truth will prevail in Court, and is staggered when the Judge rules against him, granting a large award of damages to the distributor.  He discusses this with Ken, his partner in the business, and they set about protecting the assets of the business from predation by the distributor until they can launch an appeal against the judgment.  Angered by this injustice, Ken makes a business proposal to John, to provide a service ‘to give justice to people outside the Court system’.  John is interested, after his experience of the failings of the formal legal system, and he agrees to join Ken in the business.  Ultimately, John is forced to realize that their actions are missing the real objective of correcting an ineffective and often corrupt system, and he must choose between right and wealth.

Hijack:  Penelope Gartner arrives in Johannesburg with Tom Perkins, an aspirant musician, to collect a LandRover owned by friends, to drive it to Maputo Airport to collect Jensen and Elizabeth, and then to Silver Shoal, a diving and fishing camp in central Mozambique.  Penelope finds that Tom is a drunk and a boor, and, worse, wants to sleep with her and doesn’t understand the word “no!”  The vacation turns into something of a nightmare for Penelope as she avoids Tom’s advances and tolerates his bad manners.  After a few days at the camp, Penelope overhears a conversation in a foreign dialect between two men visitors to the camp office.  Concerned at her understanding of the conversation, she alerts Ben, one of the owners of the camp, to an impending hijacking of a ship offshore, but the hijackers are several steps ahead.  The result is a series of murders, a gunfight at night in the African bush and a boat battle at sea.

Thoughts:  Peter Michaels, the owner of a business manufacturing high-technology items for the Military, invites three friends to a New Year’s Eve lunch.  They discuss one of his newest products, a helmet designed to shield the wearer from microwave and similar radiation.  Ariadne notices that the helmet seems to sharpen the way she thinks.  The others try it, and agree.  They decide to notify the Police Special Branch the next day, believing that the helmet screens out a specific radiation that appears to be part of a plot to suppress normal thinking.  Joseph does this, but is shortly thereafter arrested on a charge of treason.  He is released the following day, only to die shortly after in an explosion of his car.  His friends realize that he was killed to suppress the knowledge that he had.  The threat is clear.  They escape to a remote location near Oudtshoorn, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.  Working under the effect of the mind-numbing radiation and with the threat of death if they make any mistake, not knowing how their thinking is being influenced or who can be trusted, they try to develop a plan to save civilization from the radiation, which is increasing in intensity and threatening to destroy the national defenses of the major nations as well as their economies.

You can literally spend hours strolling along the streets and beaches. The street level coverage of the entire town is fantastic. If your view of South Africa was formed during the era of Apartheid and the Soweto Uprising you may come away with a totally different opinion.

She accepts, only to find that the guardianship of Jennifer has become a reality when her mother is murdered.

In order to help Jennifer over the tragedy of her mother’s death, Cynthia teaches the young girl to play the piano. This is advanced by Angela, Donald’s sister-in-law, a concert pianist, and Jennifer’s skills develop quickly, until she performs to an audience of tourists in the game reserve, as an introduction to the choral concert by the school pupils.
